One of Waymo’s self-driving test vans was struck by an oncoming vehicle that had swerved to avoid hitting a third car, USA Today reports.
Police reported on Friday that the van was in autonomous mode. But Waymo said on Saturday that the vehicle was being driven manually at the time.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage and had to be towed away, the newspaper says. The Waymo driver sustained minor injuries, according to the report. It isn’t clear whether the other driver was hurt.
