VW Will Recall Nearly 324,000 Diesels in India

Volkswagen AG plans to recall 323,700 of its diesel-powered Audi, Skoda and VW brand vehicles in India to replace software that had been installed to cheat emission tests.
India issued a show-cause notice to VW in November after tests by the Automotive Research Assn. of India found significant gaps between laboratory tests and emissions measured under real-world driving conditions, Bloomberg News reports.
VW has not yet presented details of its proposed repair, which will include revised engine control software, to the government. Nor has it indicated when the recall will begin. VW did advise the government that the repairs will be conducted in phases.
Bloomberg notes that India emission standards are considerably less stringent than those in Europe or the U.S.
