VW Will Cut Output at Wolfsburg Over Emission Test Changes

Volkswagen AG’s main factory in Wolfsburg will drop 1-2 days of output per week in August and September as it recertifies models for new emission test procedures.
The company also will trim output at factories in Emden and Zwickau during the same period, Reuters reports. Earlier this month VW said the adjustments could reduce its output by 250,000 cars this year.
The reductions aim to balance supplies of unsold cars as the EU switches too the new Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure. WLTP, which uses emission readings during real-world driving conditions, goes into effect on Sept. 1.
The new procedure results in higher carbon dioxide emission readings and lower fuel efficiency estimates, thereby requiring all models to be re-tested. VW will produce only WLTP-compliant vehicles, beginning in September.
