Volkswagen AG unveiled a gesture-recognition infotainment system concept at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today.
VW is showing the system installed in a Golf R hatchback. The company says the technology aims to reduce the complexity of controlling a growing number of infotainment system functions. The capability, housed in a 12.8-inch high-res touchscreen in the center stack, recognizes midair gestures that don't require the operator to touch a screen.
A conventional 8-inch touchscreen without gesture control sits below the main screen. It is used to control the climate controls and select media. A third 12.3-inch screen with neither touch nor gesture capability replaces a conventional instrument panel.
