Volkswagen AG says it will suspend sales in South Korea of all 32 diesel models claimed by the country’s environmental ministry to violate emission and noise limits.
VW tells Reuters it will take about three months to recertify the affected cars. Last month the ministry accused the company of falsifying emission and noise test data.
Last week prosecutors arrested one of its local executives, and the Fair Trade Commission says it may file criminal charges against other VW officials. VW is to present its case to the environmental ministry on Monday.
Korea’s FTC says it will decide its next steps at a meeting five weeks from now. VW tells Reuters it may decide on legal action depending upon the outcome of next week’s meeting.
