Volkswagen AG has named Hans-Joachim Rothenpieler, currently head of technical development for VW’s Commercial Vehicles unit, as its new head of group quality assurance, effective Feb. 15.
Rothenpieler will replace Frank Tuch, who has held the position for more than five years. VW says Tuch is leaving at his own request, but sources tell Reuters he was suspended. Tuch was among several senior executives put on leave last autumn after VW admitted doctoring 11 million diesels to evade emission standards.
Rothenpieler’s successor is Harald Ludanek, who has headed R&D for the group’s Scania commercial truck unit since 2012. Both men hold degrees in mechanical engineering and are longtime company employees.
