Volkswagen AG suspects between 10 and 20 of its employees played a direct role in rigging 11 million of the company’s diesel engines to cheat on government emission tests, a source tells Reuters.
Last week the Financial Times reported that VW had already suspended about 10 of its senior executives for their possible roles in the scandal. Reuters’ source says the number could go as high as 20 people.
The source says VW’s internal investigation also is looking at as many as 40 others who may have been aware of the cheating but failed to take action. VW has declined to comment on the continuing probe.
