Prosecutors in Germany say they had added another suspect to their criminal investigation into diesel emission cheating at Volkswagen AG.
The unidentified addition brings the total number of suspects to 38, Bloomberg News reports. In January former CEO Martin Winterkorn was added to the probe.
Multiple investigations are underway in Germany. Three probes of VW and its namesake brand are being conducted by prosecutors in Braunschweig. Bloomberg notes that separate teams in Munich and Stuttgart are looking at the possible roles played by Audi and Porsche, respectively.
Within two months after the scandal broke in September 2015, VW’s own probe was said to be focusing on about 40 mainly mid-level managers. Details of that investigation, which was carried out by U.S. law firm Jones Day, have never been released.
