Volkswagen AG’s supervisory board has approved the launch of “concrete negotiations” to build and open a new assembly plant in eastern Europe about four years from now.
The factory is expected to be located in Bulgaria, Serbia or Turkey. Last November VW signaled its need for a new facility in the region after 2022 as it shuffles production assignments for facilities in Germany to make electric vehicles by then.
The new plant is expected to build SEAT Ateca and Skoda Karoq small crossover vehicles, according to Automotive News Europe.
