Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co.'s Volvo Car unit says it will trim production at two assembly plants because of a "continuous decline" in demand this year, particularly in Europe.
The brand plans to eliminate shifts this month for more than three days at its factory Torslanda, Sweden, and more than two days at its facility in Ghent, Belgium.
In late January, Volvo also will slow production at the Torslanda plant to 45 vehicles per hour from 50. Before October, the factory built 57 vehicles hourly. The company says the latest reduction will shrink the number of contract employees at the facility.
