Members of Canada’s Unifor union protested General Motors Co.’s plan to close the company’s Oshawa assembly plant in Ontario by refusing to work the night shift last night, Automotive News reports.
The protest began after GM rejected as unworkable several Unifor proposals to keep the factory operating. The company insists that the union’s suggestions fail to “combat the declining economic and market factors that must be addressed.”
