Uber Technologies Inc. says it will extend tests of its flying taxi service to Melbourne, Australia, next year, and begin public service in 2023.

The company is already conducting pilot tests of the service in Dallas and Los Angeles. In Melbourne, Uber will test 10-minute shuttle flights between downtown and the city’s airport 19 km (12 miles) away, BBC News reports. It says the trip takes as long as an hour by car.

Uber has been working with the U.S. Army, NASA and several aviation firms on air shuttle technologies. Last year it unveiled plans to open an r&d center in Paris to support the program.
