Uber Technologies Inc. plans to open a second research and testing center in Pittsburgh to develop autonomous vehicle technologies.

The ride-hailing company will renovate an old locomotive roundhouse at the former LTV Coke Works site on the Almono riverfront development in Pittsburgh’s Hazelwood neighborhood. The new center is expected to include a test track, new facilities and other testing areas.

Uber will break ground on the project later this year. But the company says it will  stay at the new facility only temporarily, noting that the city plans to eventually re-develop the site for housing and offices.

Last year, Uber opened its first advanced technologies center in partnership with Carnegie Mellon University. Located near the college’s campus, the research facility focuses on self-driving cars, safety systems and advanced mapping.
