Uber Technologies Inc. has signed a deal that will enable Japanese customers to use its ride-hailing app to summon conventional taxis.

The deal involves more than 350 cabs operated by Fuji Taxi Group in Nagoya, Japan’s third-largest city. The taxis will charge government-regulated rates, a portion of which will go to Uber, Bloomberg News reports. The news service says Uber hopes to apply the same templates with other operators in Japan’s $16 billion taxi market.

The scheme reflects Uber’s new strategy under CEO Dara Khosrowshahi to work with conventional cab companies rather that fight regulations that bar Uber’s unlicensed ride-sharing business model.

Bloomberg notes that Uber has been operating in Japan for four years, but only with its delivery and premium limousine services.
