Toyota Motor Corp. has suspended production at two FAW-Toyota run plants in Tianjin, China, from Monday through Wednesday following huge double explosions on Aug. 12 at a warehouse in the area.
Officials said Sunday the blasts killed at least 112 people and injured more than 700 others. The explosions also spewed hundreds of tons of toxic chemicals across a wide area of Tianjin's waterfront shipping yards. Safety officials are still assessing the extent of the damage.
Toyota's three-day shutdown will idle a parts plant in Tianjin and an assembly facility it supplies in nearby Xiqing. The latter factory produced about 440,000 RAV4 crossover vehicles and Corolla, Crow, Reiz and Vios cars last year.
About 40% of China's imported cars arrive via the Tianjin port.
