TomTom International BV has agreed to provide live traffic updates and real-time navigation services, plus routing for electric vehicles, to BMW Group’s BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands in select markets.
The companies began pilot testing the system in April. The service provides drivers with live updates on upcoming traffic and uses cloud-based processing to send alternative routes to the in-vehicle navigation system.
TomTom’s EV Service provides operators with real-time estimates of driving range along the planned driving route under current traffic conditions. The service also directs motorists to nearby public charging stations.
The partners announced the agreement this week at the Paris auto show. Separately, TomTom says it will extend its existing contract with PSA Group to supply digital maps and traffic information to the carmaker’s Citroen, Opel, Peugeot and Vauxhall brands.
