TomTom International BV and Continental AG’s Elektrobit Automotive unit have created a high-definition map to help carmakers and suppliers develop autonomous vehicle systems.

Described as an industry first, the HD Map Horizon provides a highly accurate virtual image of the upcoming road, nearby objects and surroundings. The system can be used as a development platform and demonstration tool for Level 2 and greater automated driving systems.
The new horizon platform teams TomTom’s HD maps and AutoStream technology with Elektrobit’s onboard Predictor software.
Finland-based Elektrobit’s software powers more than 1 billion devices in some 100 million vehicles worldwide. Conti acquired the business in 2015 from Elektrobit Corp.
