Kelty joined Tesla in 2006, making him one of the electric carmaker’s longest-serving executives. He is a former employee of Panasonic Corp., and he later led negotiations with the company to partner on Tesla’s giant battery factory outside Reno, Nev.
Tesla says Kelty’s responsibilities will be shouldered by existing staff, at least for now.
