Switzerland has joined other European countries in opening its own criminal investigation into Volkswagen AG’s 15-month-old diesel emission cheating scandal.
Reuters says the probe was launched in response to an appellate court ruling that the country must conduct its own investigation rather than rely on inquiries already underway elsewhere. Prosecutors have seized evidence from AMAG AG, the company that distributes and sells VW group brand vehicles in Switzerland.
Until now, regional Swiss investigator have been collecting and forwarding to German prosecutors all VW criminal complaints registered in Switzerland, according to Reuters. The news service says about 2,000 such filings were delivered before the court ruling.
