General Motors Co. says its 2015 model Chevrolet Corvette Z06 can zip from zero to 60 mph in just under 3 seconds and cover the quarter-mile in a tick under 11 seconds, finishing its run at 127 mph.

The 650-hp/650 lb-ft supercharged car can break the 3-second barrier when equipped with the company's new 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission, according to GM. The trip takes 3.2 seconds for models fitted with a 7-speed manual gearbox.

GM touts the stopping power of the Z06 too: six inches short of 100 feet from 60 mph, making it the best-braking car of any GM has tested. The car also can pull 1.2 g in lateral acceleration, besting the previous-best 1.13 g for a Corvette.

All tests were done with a production Z06 equipped with the Z07 performance package (Brembo carbon ceramic brake rotors, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and "aggressive" aerodynamics).

The Z06 will go on sale early next year at $79,000.
