Study: British Brexit Could Cost Germany 100,000 Jobs

As many as 100,000 jobs in Germany—many of them in the automotive sector—would be threatened if the U.K. leaves the European Union without a replacement trade deal.
So says an analysis by Germany’s prestigious Halle Institute for Economic Research. Results were published yesterday by Weld am Sonntag.
The study warns that Germany would be harder hit than other European countries because its economy is the most reliant on exports. Researchers say Wolfsburg, the headquarters of Volkswagen AG, and Dingolfing-Landau, home of BMW’s largest assembly plant, would be hardest hit.
The Halle IWH study estimates that a so-called “hard” Brexit by the U.K. would impact 612,000 worldwide, with 179,000 in the EU.
