South Korea’s environment ministry has fined BMW, Nissan and Porsche for falsifying emission test data for about 4,500 vehicles. The ministry had announced the impending fines in November.
The three companies will pay a combined 7.1 billion won ($6 million), Bloomberg News reports. It says the sanctions apply to 10 models, four of which are no longer on sale in the country.
The fines are the latest penalties levied by South Korea over fabricated certification documents relating to engine noise and emission tests. Last August such findings prompted the country to ban the sale of 83,000 vehicles representing 80 Volkswagen Group models sold under the Audi, Bentley and VW brands. VW also was fined nearly 18 billion won ($1.5 million).
In December the country’s fair trade commission imposed a record 37.3 billion ($31.9 million) fine against VW Group for false advertising about emission levels.
