Siemens AG has agreed to acquire HaCon Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, a Hanover, Germany-based software company that provides route planning, scheduling and information systems services for public transportation, mobility and logistics applications.
Financial details weren’t disclosed. The deal is expected to be completed later this quarter.
Formed in the mid-1980s, HaCon says its trip-planning software is used by some 100 transport companies and associations in more than 25 countries. The acquisition will complement Siemens current automation and intermodal digital offerings with the addition of timetable scheduling and trip-planning services.
As a result, Siemens says it will be able to provide rail infrastructure operators and public transportation companies route planning, timetable information systems, payment systems and intermodal mobility platforms. The company also plans to develop more advanced smartphone apps to further enhance trip planning.
