Audi AG has pushed back the launch of its next-generation A3 small sedan and all-new Q4 small crossover vehicle because its powertrain engineering staff has been preoccupied with updates for older diesels that were rigged to sidestep emission rules, sources tell Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport magazine.

The report says the updated A3 won’t go into production until late 2019, and the Q4 will follow in 2021. Audi has declined to comment.

The two new models, both of which will share VW’s four-year-old MQB (modular transverse matrix) front-wheel-drive platform, will offer an array of diesel and gasoline engines. The magazine does not indicate any problems with engines for either of the new vehicles.
