Ram Revives Diesel-Powered Pickup, for Now
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV’s Ram truck unit has resumed selling 2017-model 1500 full-size pickup trucks equipped with a previously banned 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV’s Ram truck unit has resumed selling 2017-model 1500 full-size pickup trucks equipped with a 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine.
In July the carmaker received clearance to do so from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which banned the engines last year for using cheater software to meet emissions regulations. The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel also is used in the Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV.
Earlier this year the automaker, which denied any regulatory wrongdoing, said it had developed updated emissions software that meets EPA rules. Automotive News reports that 2018 versions of the diesel-powered Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee haven’t been certified yet.
