PSA Group plans to cancel a production shift at its assembly plant in Vigo, Spain, because of sagging sales for the Peugeot 301 and Citroen C-Elysse small sedans made there.
The company tells Reuters that demand for the sibling cars in Argentina and Turkey, their two main markets, has shrunk significantly and isn’t likely to revive in 2019. Dropping one of two shifts will affect about 800 of the factory’s 6,000 workers, according to the news service.
The Vigo plant also makes light vans and the C4 Picasso MPV and Grand C4 Picasso minivan (both renamed SpaceTourer earlier this year).
