PSA to Close Aulnay Factory Next Month

PSA Peugeot Citroen, which planned to end production at its Aulnay auto assembly plant near Paris by 2014, tells Bloomberg News it will close the facility at the end of October.
Half the factory's 2,800-person permanent workforce has found jobs elsewhere, according to the company. PSA reportedly also has been offering lump-sum payments for workers who agree to retire early or work part-time for lower wages.
PSA tells Bloomberg that staffing on the factory's production line is only about 20% of its former level. The company's goal is to eliminate 11,200 jobs in France by 2015 to help stem steep financial losses.
