PSA Still Struggling to Restart Aulnay Factory
PSA Peugeot Citroen says it hopes to resume production this week at its assembly plant in Aulnay, France.
PSA Peugeot Citroen says it hopes to resume production this week at its assembly plant in Aulnay, France. Workers protesting the company's plans to shutter the facility next year have slowed or halted output for a month.
Early this month PSA reached an agreement with all but one of its unions the militant CGT to offer the factory's 2,800 hourly employees early retirement or job transfers. But about 300 strikers continue to prevent the resumption of carmaking by cutting power cables and damaging equipment, according to the company.
PSA is losing output of about 440 Citroen C3 superminis per day. The company says there are now waiting lists for the car.
Workers who have complained of harassment by CGT members will begin transferring to another plant next month.
