PSA Group plans to debut new driver-assist features on select Citroen, Peugeot and DS-badged models next year and introduce a Level 3 autonomous vehicle in 2020. Models with Level 4 and Level 5 capabilities will follow in 2025 and 2030, respectively.
The first PSA car with Level 2 autonomous system will be the DS 7 Crossback crossover/SUV, which is due early next year. This will be followed by the Citroen C5 Aircross in the second half of 2018.
The D7 Crossback’s Connected Pilot system will be capable of hands-off steering within a lane during highway driving. Users also can choose to positon their vehicles off-center in a lane to allow motorcycles room to pass, PSA says. The vehicle will include an advanced self-parking system.
PSA currently is testing its Level 3 autonomous system on 12 prototype Citroen C4 Picassos and Peugeot 3008 GT cars. Those vehicles are equipped with five cameras, five lidar sensors and seven radar sensors. The system allows for automated throttle and braking controls—including bringing a vehicle to a complete stop—and changing lanes to pass slower vehicles.
