Volkswagen AG’s Porsche unit has been ordered to recall 59,600 of its diesel Cayenne and Macan SUV/crossover vehicles in Europe because they contain illegal emission control software, Der Spiegel reports.
The campaign targets Macan compact vehicles with 3.0-liter V-6 diesels and Cayenne large SUVs with 4.2-liter V-8 diesels. KBA, Germany’s vehicle regulatory agency, says both engines use unlawful software that can allow excessive nitrogen oxides emissions during normal driving conditions.
Porsche’s diesels are supplied by sister VW division Audi. Porsche told KBA in February that it discovered irregularities in its own emission tests of the engines. Last month Audi cautions that similar recalls appear likely for other VW Group vehicles that use the same diesel engines.
