Porsche AG has bought a minority stake in Evopark GmbH, a two-year-old startup based in Cologne, Germany, that helps motorists find available parking spots.
The investment, which was made through the carmaker’s new Porsche Digital GmbH subsidiary, is described as being “a seven-digit” sum. It’s the first deal for Porsche Digital, which was formed in May to track trends in connectivity and “smart” mobility and look for related investments.
The Evopark smartphone app identifies and directs drivers to available spaces at affiliated parking lots. Parking fees are billed monthly.
As part of a three-month pilot program, Porsche and Audi drivers can park at no charge for the first hour at parking garages operated by Evopark partners. The parking service currently is available at 37 facilities in 16 cities in Germany.
