Porsche AG says it has no plans to offer hybrid or full-electric versions of its GT performance cars.
GT variants of the 911 and other models will continue to be powered by stand-alone piston engines to match their race car counterparts, Porsche GT boss Andreas Preuninger tells Autocar. Otherwise, the race-derived street cars risk losing their credibility, he says.
Like most carmakers, however, Porsche plans a range of electrified powertrain options across its non-GT lineup. The carmaker has offered hybrid variants of the Panamera sedan and Cayenne crossover for several years. And its first full EV, the Taycan sedan, is due to launch later this year.
The company also captured three straight wins (2015 to 2017) at the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race with the hybrid-electric 919 Evo racer. A modified version of that vehicle holds the track record at Germany’s legendary Nurburgring-Nordschleife course.
