Porsche AG says its latest 911 Turbo and Turbo S sports cars are 16% more fuel efficient on the European test cycle (NEDC) than their predecessors.

The new Turbo and Turbo S are equipped with a bi-turbocharged 3.8-liter 6-cylinder engine rated at 520 hp and 560 hp, respectively. The two models can scoot from zero to 100 kph in 3.2 seconds and 3.1 seconds on their way to top speeds just under 200 mph.

Both cars are rated on the NEDC cycle at 24.3 mpg. Porsche attributes their improved fuel economy on such factors as engine and thermal management improvements, automatic stop-start with earlier engine shutoff and a more refined all-wheel-drive system with four-wheel steering. The two cars channel power from their engines through a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

The new 911s also sport Porsche's first use of active aerodynamics. A retractable front spoiler and rear wing have three settings each and can be adjusted individually by the driver. The company says the aero features shaved 2 seconds off the cars' circuit time on the famed Nurburgring's north loop.

The 911 Turbo ($148,300) and Turbo S ($181,100) are due in the U.S. at the end of the year.
