Two-thirds of Germans believe Volkswagen Group makes “outstanding” cars in spite of the company’s diesel emission test cheating scandal, according to a poll by San Francisco-based brand and market researchers Prophet Inc.
The online poll of 1,000 consumers also found the same proportion believe the scandal has been overblown and will be forgotten in a year. About 60% opine that VW’s bad publicity would not tarnish Germany’s image as a maker of finely engineered vehicles.
Nine in 10 respondents believe other carmakers have manipulated emission tests too. Prophet suggests VW use its crisis to break down the company’s hierarchical structure and become “a truly customer-focused” company.
