Output at Damaged Resin Plant Won’t Resume for 6 Months

Evonik Industries AG says its chemical plant in Germany won't be able to return to making cyclododecatriene a material used in about half the world's PA-12 nylon resin until the fourth quarter of 2012.
The company's plant was heavily damaged on March 31 by an explosion that killed two employees. The facility also makes about 25% of the world's PA-12, which is widely used in fuel and brake systems.
Analysts say the global market for PA-12, including non-automotive applications, is about 100,000 tons per year.
Several carmakers and major suppliers are meeting in suburban Detroit on Monday to finalize a scheme to quickly validate substitutes for PA-12.
