PSA Group’s Opel unit has reached a labor agreement at its big assembly plant in Zaragoza, Spain, that is expected to ensure the factory will build the next-generation Corsa small car, Reuters reports.
Details about the settlement weren’t immediately available. But Reuters says local media reports that the deal covers five years and includes a wage freeze for 2018.
PSA claims the facility is less efficient than its two other Spanish plants in Madrid and Vigo. The French company had threatened earlier this month to cut investment at Zaragoza unless workers agreed to more flexible work rules.
Zaragoza makes the best-selling Corsa along with three crossover models: the C3 Aircross for PSA’s Citroen brand and the Crossland X and Mokka for Opel. Reuters says the facility, which ran at 80% of capacity last year, built 382,300 vehicles and employed 5,300 workers in 2017.
