Norway is moving forward with plans to ban the sale of passenger vehicles powered by gasoline and diesel engines by 2025, reports Dagens Næringsliv.

The Norwegian newspaper says the country’s four main political parties have resolved their differences on the proposal, which has been in the works for several months. But it notes that a final agreement still needs to be signed into law by parliament.

If approved, the legislation would essentially limit light-vehicle sales to all-electric and fuel cell-powered models by 2025. Buses and heavy trucks are expected to have a longer phase-in process. The Netherlands is considering a similar proposal.

EVs already account for 24% of Norway’s new car sales, which is said to be the highest percentage in the world. Several times in the last few years, Tesla’s Model S EV has been the top-selling vehicle in the country for a given month. Tesla CEO Elon Musk was quick to tweet his support of the new plan.
