No carmaker has yet applied to a program launched in January that would allow them to test self-driving cars on public roads in Ontario, Canada.
The province became the first in Canada to allow such testing. But Reuters confirms no one has yet applied for permission.
Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation tells the news service it has seen considerable interest in the program from nearly 100 companies and institutions that are working on connected and robotic vehicle technologies in the province. The ministry also points out testing such capabilities on public roads is still in its infancy and is likely to expand over the next 10 years.
