Nissan Motor Co. plans to spend about 10 billion yen (€102 million) to double its annual assembly capacity in Pretoria, South Africa, to 100,000 vehicles by 2016, The Nikkei reports.

The Tokyo-based newspaper, which doesn't cite its sources, says Nissan wants to use the country as an export base for other African markets.

The main goal of the expansion is to increase Nissan's output of small pickup trucks, according to the Nikkei. The factory also makes commercial vehicles and subcompact cars.
