Nissan Motor Co. says it will spend 11 billion baht ($355 million) to erect a pickup truck plant near Bangkok that would boost its annual capacity in Thailand by more than two-thirds to 370,000 vehicles by 2016.

The factory is set to open in August 2014 with annual capacity of 75,000 vehicles, which would double about two years later. Nissan plans to export about half of the new facility's output.

The new plant is near the company's existing car and truck factory. Nissan says the second plant is key to reaching its goal of attaining a 15% share of the Thai market by 2016.
