Nissan Motor Co. is offering U.S. buyers of its Leaf electric sedan two years of free battery charges at public charging facilities.
The promotion, dubbed No Charge to Charge, is available in the Leaf's 10 most successful U.S. markets: San Francisco, Sacramento and San Diego, Calif.; Portland, Ore.; Seattle, Wash.; Phoenix, Ariz.; Dallas-Ft. Worth and Houston, Tex.; Nashville, Tenn.; and Washington, D.C.
Nissan expects to expand the program to at least 15 more U.S. markets in 2015.
The plan gives participants access to no-cost charging at more than 2,600 public facilities operated by America's five largest EV charging networks. Customers can access any network using Nissan's new EZ-Charge card.
Nissan promotion may have been inspired by Tesla Motor Inc.'s expanding nationwide network of Supercharger high-power charging stations. Tesla's facilities give owners of the company's Model S electric sedans unlimited fast charges for as long as they own their cars.
