The new 5 billion-yuan ($817 million) factory is making the X-Trail SUV. It is expected to add a second SUV/crossover model, probably the Qashqai, in about one year. The Nikkei say the facility may begin making an Infiniti-branded luxury SUV at a later date.
The facility has initial capacity to build 150,000 vehicles per year. Nissan reportedly aims to double capacity at Dalian in about 2016.
