As indicated by trademarks filed last year, Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. has tapped Norse mythology to name its upcoming hybrid-powered hypercar Valhalla.
The carmaker unveiled a concept of the car, codenamed AM-RB 003, in March at the Geneva auto show. The concept car (pictured) is said to represent 90% of the production model, which is due to launch in late 2021.

While sharing some of the styling and technology of Aston Martin’s flagship Valkyrie model, the Valhalla promises to be slightly more practical. Pricing will start at a relatively modest £1 million ($1.3 million), less than half the cost of the Valkyrie.
The Valhalla’s mid-engine hybrid architecture teams an electric drivetrain with a twin-turbo V-6 engine. The combination is expected to generate more than 1,000 hp and propel the car to a top speed of at least 220 mph. Other goodies include a large rear diffuser and an active suspension.
Featuring a carbon fiber chassis and body, the new model will tip the scales at less than 3,000 lbs. Lightweighting techniques also are being applied to the headlights and taillights, which Autocar says provides a 75% savings over the lights used in the DB1. Additional weight reduction will be gained by using a 3-D printing process for the center console and several other interior parts.
The Valhalla and Valkyrie follow several other V-based Aston Martin models: the Vantage, Virage and Vanquish. The naming convention started in 1951 with the Vantage performance derivative of the DB2 sports car.
