Mercedes Assembly to Begin in Brazil Next Year
Daimler AG is erecting a factory in Iracemapolis, Brazil, that will begin assembling as many as 20,000 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedans and GLA crossovers per year in 2016.
Daimler AG is erecting a factory in Iracemapolis, Brazil, that will begin assembling as many as 20,000 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedans and GLA crossovers per year in 2016.
The 500 million reais (€159 million) facility is located about 170 km northwest of Sao Paulo. Daimler notes that the plant will use significantly less automation that the company's larger Mercedes factories.
The Mercedes factory was widely expected. Daimler joins Audi, BMW and perhaps Jaguar Land Rover in opening assembly facilities in Brazil this year. The factories are in response to Brazilian quotas and taxes that encourage local production
