Waze and other navigation systems that use traffic data to calculate the fastest route could inadvertently steer motorists to open roads near fires, the Los Angeles Times notes.
More than 190,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes this week in the wake of six large wildfires that have scorched nearly 160,000 acres in California.
