A court in Seoul has ruled that Nissan Motor Co. sold diesel-powered Qashqai crossover vehicles in South Korea that were illegally equipped to evade emission standards, Reuters reports.
The court rejected the carmaker’s appeal of a decision last year by Korea’s environment ministry to suspend Qashqai sales and order a recall of some 800 of the vehicles already in the country. The ministry also fined the company 330 million won ($287,000).
Nissan insists the diesel Qashqai contains no so-called defeat device and meets applicable standards. The targeted vehicles were produced in Sunderland, U.K., and are equipped with 1.6-liter diesels made by Renault SA.
