Kia Motors Corp. says the all-electric variant of its Niro crossover vehicle will have a driving range of 301 miles on Europe’s WLTP cycle.
That bests the 292-mile range of parent Hyundai Motor Co.’s Kona Electric crossover, which was introduced this summer in Europe. The Kona will bow in the U.S. this autumn with an Environmental Protection Agency rating of 258 miles, which is second only to the Tesla 3 sedan’s market-leading 310 miles.
The Niro, which is due early next year in the U.S., hasn’t yet received an official EPA rating. The European model will be publicly unveiled at next month’s Paris auto show.
At launch, the Niro and Kona EVs each will be equipped with a 64-kWh battery. Less expensive versions of the vehicles will be added later with 39.2-kWh batteries that provide an estimated driving range of about 160 miles in the U.S.
