Japan Quakes Force GM to Idle Four N. American Plants
On Monday General Motors Co. will idle operations for two weeks at three assembly plants in the U.S. and one in Canada.
On Monday General Motors Co. will idle operations for two weeks at three assembly plants in the U.S. and one in Canada. The company says last week’s earthquakes in Japan have disrupted its supply chain.
Affected plants are:
- Fairfax, Kan. (Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Malibu sedans)
- Lordstown, Ohio (Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan)
- Spring Hill, Tenn. (Cadillac XT5 and GMC Acadia crossover vehicles)
- Oshawa, Ontario (Chevrolet Camaro sport coupe and Impala, Buick Regal and Cadillac XTS sedans)
GM did not disclose which components prompted the shutdown. The company plans to recoup lost production later in the year and expects no impact on its second-quarter or full-year financial results for North America.
