Japan Earthquake Idles Two Assembly Plants
Nissan Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp. each have idled an assembly plant in Japan following a major earthquake and aftershocks in southwest Japan on Thursday that killed at least 10 people.

Neither facility was damaged and no one was hurt at either factory. But the quakes damaged die-casting and body components plants owned by Aisin Seiki Co. The operations supply sunroofs, door frames and body fixtures used by Toyota’s Lexus luxury car factory at Miyata and Nissan’s crossover, van and sedan plant at Fukuoka.
Toyota reports its facility will be closed through Saturday. Nissan’s plant continued operations today but will suspend operations on Saturday. Both companies say they will spend the weekend assessing their supply chains.
