Hyundai Motor Co. says it will add a third shift at its assembly plant in Montgomery, Ala., in September to meet strong North American demand for the Elantra compact and Sonata midsize cars built there.
The company will hire about 880 employees. The extra shift will boost the factory's annual capacity to 245,000 units, USA Today reports.
The two models account for nearly two-thirds of Hyundai's U.S. sales. But tight supplies are hurting sales, the company says. April volume fell 6% to 20,500 vehicles for the Sonata and 24% to 16,800 units for the Elantra.
